Profile

Dr Courtney Wright has researched about housing for people with disability for the last 7 years. She completed her PhD in 2016. Her PhD research sought to understand what people with neurological disability want from their homes and communities, so that housing can be better designed to meet people’s needs. Her research has informed policy development around the National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIIS) in Queensland, practice guidelines for inclusive housing, two Commonwealth Government Inquiry submissions, and an innovative online housing resource for people with disability and their families. Her work has been widely published in international journals, and presented at several national and international conferences.

For her role at Synapse, Courtney has undertaken an extensive cultural induction by her cultural mentor, Jennifer Cullen (a descendant of the Wakka Wakka people and Synapse CEO). She continues to receive cultural mentorship by Jennifer Cullen and Elders in the community.

Courtney is passionate about social justice and working with people who have a disability to enable them to live the life they want to live.
