Profile

Paora Sheeran is Ngati Kahungunu and Ngati Pahauwera and plays a critical role in supporting the Maori Housing Network (Ministry of Maori Development) and Maori groups with social housing delivery and support in the lower North Island of New Zealand. Previously employed by the Maori Land Court he applies expert knowledge in his support of groups not otherwise available and is a passionate yet humble advocate for housing Maori and he gets things done like no other. Paora's involvement in social housing was as Project Manager for the successfully completed (in 2015) Aorangi Maori Trust Board papakainga (housing on Maori land) of 6 rental units and 2 owner-occupied units with Social Housing Unit funding.

Since then Paora is facilitating at least four other Maori Housing Network funded housing developments in Hawkes Bay/Wairarapa (Waimarama - just completing 3 social rental and 2 owner-occupied; Hawaikirangi 3 social rental; Rotopounamu 4 social rental and Hurunui O Rangi 6 social rental) - a significant proportion of the MHN's current activity. The MHN has separately contracted him to provide papakainga workshops and he is in demand by groups across the country. He has now accepted a role on the Te Matapihi Board - going the extra mile. He's a champion for Maori housing, has achieved outstanding results and needs recognition on behalf of the whole Maori housing sector.
