Chief Executive Officer  | Aboriginal Housing Victoria

Darren Smith is Palawa Trowerna from the Pyemairrenner people in Tasmania.
Darren has over 10 years’ public service experience in a range of policy roles for the Victorian Government in the former Aboriginal Affairs Victoria and Department of Human Services. Darren’s experience includes policy development and executive support of statutory boards and Ministerial Advisory Committees. More recent experience includes managing a regulatory team in Building Policy for the Department of Transport, Planning and Local Infrastructure. He has Academic qualifications in Engineering, Law and Public Policy.

Darren has held executive positions at Aboriginal Housing Victoria since 2014. As Director Strategy and Performance, Darren was responsible for the coordination and development of AHV’s successful submission for Housing Association registration in 2015. The submission required the review and development of an extensive range of financial, risk management, asset management, governance, human resources and operational policies. AHV is the only Aboriginal housing organisation in Australia to achieve this level of accreditation.

Darren was appointed as AHV’s Chief Executive Officer in March 2017.
