Daphne Habibis

Associate Professor Daphne Habibis is Director of the Housing and Community Research Unit, and Deputy Director of the Institute for the Study of Social Change, at the University of Tasmania.   She is a sociologist who has published widely on housing and urban policy issues especially in relation to tenancy sustainment and Aboriginal housing.  She is the co-author, with Associate Professor Maggie Walter, of the monograph, Social Inequality in Australia: Discourses, Realities and Futures published by Oxford University Press (2014).   She is the lead investigator on a number of ARC and AHURI funded research projects concerning Aboriginal and Euro-Australian race relations, welfare conditionality in Aboriginal housing, and improving tenancy management in remote Aboriginal communities.
